Multi-Domain Combat Readiness: How BORG Transforms Guardian Training with Gamified, Synthetic Environments

April 4, 2025

Extending mission operations and training into digital environments that bring existing fielded capabilities together with Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) and synthetic elements, like digital twins and simulations, rapidly and seamlessly is a recuring theme in needs statements across mission domains. Distributed, virtual environments that scale to meet expanding joint planning and exercise & wargaming event needs facilitate the continuous delivery of enduring and integrated solutions to the warfighter which ultimately speeds combat readiness.

Auria’s Battlespace Operational Readiness Game (BORG) training and planning application, in use today for education & training of 500+ Guardians and exercise planning & analysis by US Space Command, is uniquely positioned to be a key element within a synthetic training environment. BORG’s unique gamified and mixed reality training and planning experience takes collaboration at joint exercise events to the next level. By design, BORG is filling a niche along the continuum of learning for high performing, 3D, visual gamified training tools enabling Integrated Air & Missile Defense (IAMD) Mission Planners and Space C2 Guardians to learn the fundamentals of their tradecraft in an all-domain environment.

BORG is a visual, hands-on, web-based training simulation that encourages warfighters at all levels to “play” often, from anywhere at any time, to quickly master and hone their skills as they become expert Guardians operating in a multi-domain environment. Players are challenged to complete scenarios, outrun smart AI-enabled adversaries, and test out Courses of Action (COAs) using real-world data in a visual 3D graphical environment while checking out rankings on leaderboards and working to beat the clock. BORG’s online multiplayer capability allows “broadcasting” of a Common Operating Picture (COP) for live exercises as well as hosting Red vs. Blue wargames with White Cell event injects.

Its visual game design and mixed reality (XR/MR) collaboration have provide an engaging training experience that reaches higher levels of the Bloom’s taxonomy for learning, resulting in an accelerated progression of crew members to the Ops floor and shortened training timelines. Through leaderboards, interactive lessons, and scored scenarios, Guardians and IAMD Planners are mastering and retaining the fundamentals and complex IAMD and Orbital/Electronic Warfare skills more quickly with less investment.
